Grandmother’s BedtimeJuly 27, 2014, 0 Comments
My grandmother died on December 24, 2013. It was a very sad day for me because we were extremely close. At the start of the new year, my 2 brothers, my sister, and I flew to her house to clean out all her belongings. We weren’t prepared for what happened next.
Several full days of cleaning passed, which proved to be a wholly therapeutic experience. We exchanged stories of our grandmother from years past, looking at photographs and reminiscing on memories that will last a lifetime. All of the sudden, at 9:30 pm, all of the lights in the house went off.
We wondered if it was an electrical problem and checked the circuit box. All of the switches were on. Desperate for an explanation, I looked over to the light switch. It had been switched off. I was overcome with chills.
It occurred to me that 9:30 pm was my grandmothers habitual bedtime for as long as I knew her. We could feel the love in the room, as we acknowledged the warmth grandmother’s presence.
My family and I never got to say goodbye to our Grandmother before her passing, but we didn’t have to. Because on that fateful night, we would be the recipients of her spiritual goodbye to us.
